According to officials’ statement on Saturday, as the military strikes against Iran have escalated, more than 3,500 U.S. troops have arrived in the Middle East, including the “Tripoli” amphibious assault ship, carrying about 2,500 Marine Corps personnel.

The U.S. Central Command said in a post on social media that the “Tripoli” as the flagship of the “Tripoli” Amphibious Ready Group/31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, has arrived in its area of responsibility.

The ship is the newest model of the “Big Deck” amphibious vessel, which can provide greater capacity to support F-35 stealth fighters, Osprey transport aircraft, and other aircraft types. When it received orders to deploy to the Middle East nearly two weeks ago, the ship had previously been stationed in Japan.

The U.S. Central Command said that in addition to Marine Corps personnel, the “Tripoli” has brought transport aircraft, fighters, and amphibious combat equipment to the region as well. The amphibious assault ship Boxer, two other vessels, and another Marine Expeditionary Unit have also been ordered to redeploy to the region from San Diego.

The U.S. Central Command said in a situation update on Saturday that since the “Inherent Resolve” operation launched on February 28, U.S. forces have struck more than 11,000 targets.
