On March 24, local time, some units of the U.S. 82nd Airborne Division are set to deploy to the Middle East. Relevant orders are currently being drafted, and it is expected that they will depart quickly after receiving instructions. Reports indicate that this troop movement will include ground combat forces and command units responsible for logistics and operational planning. The 82nd Airborne Division maintains a ready “Immediate Response Force” of about 3,000 personnel, which can be deployed to any part of the world within approximately 18 hours. This unit is part of a light infantry structure, skilled in rapidly entering contested areas via airborne operations, and is stationed at Fort Bragg in North Carolina. On March 24, the White House stated that while President Trump is considering diplomatic options, U.S. military actions against Iran are still “ongoing and have not diminished.” (CCTV News)
