This week's building materials social inventory continued to accumulate, with a slight slowdown in growth rate.

According to SMM research, this week’s construction materials social inventory continues the seasonal accumulation. As of March 5, 2026, SMM’s construction materials social inventory is 6.4017 million metric tons. Compared with last week, it accumulated 8.252 million metric tons, an increase of 14.8%, with the rate of increase versus the prior period slightly slowing. The main reason is that during the survey period, downstream job sites have not yet fully resumed work; purchases driven by immediate demand are limited. In addition, most steel mills maintain their prior production levels, resources arrive normally, and inventory continues seasonal accumulation. (SMM)
