At a press conference held today (March 30) by the State Council Information Office, a spokesperson with the Ministry of Commerce said that it will introduce a series of measures to optimize tax refunds for departing travelers, upgrade and expand product offerings, and more, to keep the “Shopping in China” initiative growing steadily. Regarding policy support, relevant departments will implement measures for an optimized “tax refund for departing travelers” 2.0 version, making shopping for overseas visitors more convenient and affordable, and will introduce measures to promote the expansion and upgrading of consumer goods consumption, including expanding the consumption of domestic brands, international high-end products, fashion brands, and quality imports. In terms of event arrangements, over 20 key activities will be held, such as the International Consumption Season and a Premium Consumption Month, along with city-specific and local branch events for “Shopping in China.” The Ministry will also guide localities in coordinating resources across commerce, tourism, culture, sports, and health to meet diverse consumer needs. Additionally, the Ministry of Commerce will deepen the development of international consumption hub cities and establish a number of international consumption clusters. It will also pilot new business formats, models, and consumption scenarios, creating a batch of innovative consumption scenes that are highly experiential, broadly influential, and highly visible.
