DTE appeals $100 million federal judgment over Zug Island air pollution

DTE Energy is appealing a $100 million federal court judgment concerning sulfur dioxide pollution from its Zug Island coke facility. The court ruled that DTE violated the Clean Air Act by making major upgrades without proper permits, resulting in increased pollution. Besides the fine, DTE is required to fund $20 million in community air quality programs over seven years.
