This morning on the 30th, Hunan’s first major water conservancy project of this year—the Ziyang Plain Irrigation Area’s reconstruction and supporting works, along with modernization upgrades—started construction in Lixian County, Changde City, Hunan. The Ziyang Plain Irrigation Area is located in the lower reaches of the Li River in the northern part of Hunan, on the plains, and is an important grain-producing area in the province. The designed irrigated area is 404,900 mu. Because some existing water conservancy facilities have been in service for many years, there are issues such as aging infrastructure and low water conveyance efficiency. As one of the major water conservancy projects under the national “two priorities” construction implementation plan, the project has a total investment of 486 million yuan, and its main construction items include canal drainage ditch renovation and information-based development of the irrigation area. After the project is completed, it is expected to restore and improve the irrigated area by 349,900 mu and increase grain output by 52 million jin each year. (CCTV News)
