On the evening of the 2nd in local time, US President Donald Trump claimed on social media that the US military “has not yet started destroying what remains of Iran,” and that it will next strike Iran’s bridges and power plants.

US and Israeli strikes hit one bridge in Iran, leaving more than a hundred dead and injured

On the 2nd, local time, the Beyik Highway Bridge in Qazvin province, Iran—described as the highest bridge in the Middle East and a signature Iranian engineering project—was damaged in an attack by the United States and Israel.

It is understood that the bridge is a benchmark project in Iran’s engineering sector, known as one of the world’s most complex engineering achievements. It forms part of the core road infrastructure of the Tehran–Karaj transportation corridor and was originally planned to be officially put into operation soon.

According to reports from Iranian media, the airstrike killed eight civilians and injured another 95 people. The attack damaged the bridge’s main structural component, and the relevant road segments have been fully closed off. The local government issued an emergency alert urging the public to avoid the area. The attack also caused power supply disruptions in parts of Karaj.

After the attack, President Trump posted a video on social media, saying the airstrike “destroyed Iran’s largest bridge,” and that this move is intended to pressure Iran to “reach an agreement” with the United States.

In response, Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said that destroying civilian infrastructure would not force Iran to surrender; such actions only show the failure and collapse in morale of the “enemy in a state of chaos.” He emphasized that every bridge and building that is destroyed will be rebuilt, and “more sturdily,” and that the established fact that “the United States’ position has been damaged” will be irreversible.

The Public Relations Department of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps issued a statement today (April 3), saying that the advanced air defense system deployed by the IRGC “successfully shot down the second US military advanced F-35 fighter jet” in Iran’s central airspace. It is claimed that the aircraft has been “completely destroyed and crashed,” and that “no information about the pilot’s whereabouts has been obtained yet.” The US military has not responded to this as of yet.
