Vice Chairman of International Affairs at the Iranian Red Crescent Society: Civilians Must Be Respected and Supported

Xinhua News Agency, Tehran, March 24 (Reporter: Shadati) Ališvandī, Deputy Head of International Affairs at the Iranian Red Crescent, said in an interview with Xinhua reporters at the site of an attack in a neighborhood in northern Tehran on the 23rd: “The Iranian Red Crescent records civilian casualty figures every day and submits them to the relevant international organizations. Civilians must be respected and supported.”

In the early hours of the 23rd, the neighborhood in northern Tehran was attacked by Israel and the United States. Ališvandī told reporters that, as of now, 3 people have been killed and 7 injured in the attack. “Our rescue teams are still searching and rescuing, and our psychological and social support teams are also on the scene, helping the people affected by the attack.”

Ališvandī also provided reporters with information such as the number of civilians affected by the attacks across Iran as of the 23rd and the locations. According to the report, across Iran’s provinces, 82,205 civilian premises and 19,162 commercial premises were hit, of which 62,253 were residential. Only within Tehran, the number of targeted residences exceeds 25,000.

He said that not only private homes were hit, but also medical facilities and educational institutions. According to statistics, a total of 275 damaged medical, pharmaceutical, and emergency service centers were reported, and 498 damaged schools and educational institutions. Seventeen Iranian Red Crescent rescue centers were damaged; 10 rescue personnel were injured, and 1 rescue personnel sadly lost their life. The organization’s 3 rescue helicopters and 48 ambulance and rescue vehicles were also damaged in the attack.

Ališvandī said that what is especially heartbreaking is that, as of the 23rd, 206 teachers and students were killed, and 154 teachers and students were injured. Among medical personnel as well, 21 people were killed and 103 injured. In addition, other figures show that the U.S.-and-Israel attacks on Iran also resulted in 234 female deaths, including two pregnant women, and 3,600 women injured.

During the interview, Ashkan Fālhan, a rescue worker from the Iranian Red Crescent, also stepped forward to tell reporters, “Look at the buildings nearby—they are all residents’ homes! There are no military or paramilitary facilities of any kind! This morning, this place was attacked, and the only people harmed are residents.”
