A reporter learned on March 18 from the Supreme People’s Procuratorate that a case involving alleged bribery by Xu Xianping, a former member of the Party Leadership Group and deputy director of the National Development and Reform Commission, has been investigated to conclusion by the National Supervisory Commission and transferred to the prosecuting authorities for review and prosecution. The Supreme People’s Procuratorate, in accordance with the law, made a decision to arrest Xu Xianping on suspicion of accepting bribes, and designated the Chifeng Municipal People’s Procuratorate of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region to review and prosecute the case. Recently, the Chifeng Municipal People’s Procuratorate has filed a public prosecution with the Chifeng Municipal Intermediate People’s Court. In the review and prosecution stage, the procuratorial authorities, in accordance with the law, informed the defendant Xu Xianping of the litigation rights he enjoys, questioned the defendant, and heard the defense counsel’s opinions. The procuratorial authorities allege in the indictment that the defendant Xu Xianping, by taking advantage of conveniences arising from his positions, including as a member of the Party Leadership Group and vice governor of the People’s Government of Hunan Province, a Standing Committee member of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and vice governor, a deputy-ministerial-level official of the National Development and Reform Commission, a member of the leading group of the Hunan Provincial People’s Government, a member of the Hunan Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee, and a State Council consultant, sought benefits for others, illegally accepted money and property from others, with an amount that is especially huge, and that he should, according to law, be held criminally liable for the crime of accepting bribes.
