Google has made a major AI upgrade to the video editing tool Google Vids, adding the Veo 3.1 video generation model and the Lyria music creation model. Users can generate video and music clips, and a customizable AI virtual avatar feature has been introduced. Additionally, it supports quick screen recording and direct publishing to YouTube.

April 03, according to a report by Ars Technica, Google has carried out a major AI upgrade to its video editing tool, Google Vids, integrating the latest Veo 3.1 video generation model and the Lyria music creation model. Veo 3.1 can generate 8-second, 720p resolution videos; free users can generate 10 per month, AI Pro subscribers can generate 50 per month, and AI Ultra users can generate up to 1000 per month.

The Lyria model can also automatically generate music snippets of 30 seconds or 3 minutes in a style described by the user, without needing to manually enter lyrics. In addition, Vids has added customizable AI virtual avatar features, supporting consistent appearance and sound across different scenarios, and enabling interaction with objects in the video. Google also rolled out a companion Chrome extension that supports quick screen recording and webcam recording, and added a feature to publish directly to YouTube. All new features are now live.
