Google is brewing a commuting mode for phones like Pixel 10: filtering notifications, switching audio, and more
IT之家 on March 12 reports that technology media Android Authority published a blog post yesterday (March 11), saying that Google is planning to roll out a “Transit Mode” for Pixel phones to optimize the device experience when users ride public transportation.
According to the preview interface successfully enabled by 9to5Google and Google’s official support documentation, users can access this feature via the path “Settings > Modes > Transit.”
IT之家 cited the blog post to introduce that this mode supports customizing the phone’s behavior after it is triggered automatically, including automatically switching audio modes, adjusting Bluetooth connections, and setting specific notification filtering rules, helping users reduce unnecessary distractions in noisy or enclosed bus environments.
The core highlight of this mode is the notification filtering feature. Users can pre-set specific contacts and apps that are allowed to send reminders during commutes. With this kind of fine-grained management, the phone can effectively block non-urgent social updates while ensuring that users won’t miss important messages from family members or real-time work instructions.
To enable Transit Mode smoothly, users must complete a series of prerequisite settings. The system requirements clearly indicate the locations of home and work, and require granting permission for precise location to build a transit profile. Google’s official reminder notes that the Maps app usually needs 2 to 3 weeks to learn and recognize a user’s commuting patterns before it can accurately automate the mode switching.
