Iran claims to have struck Oracle and Amazon data centers in the Gulf region; UAE denies it
China News Service, Beijing, April 3 (Xinhua) — Comprehensive report: Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it carried out strikes on the data centers of U.S. software company Oracle and Amazon in the Gulf region on April 2. On April 3, an official statement issued by the United Arab Emirates said that reports of an attack on Oracle’s Dubai data center were “untrue.”
The Navy command of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said in a social media post on April 2 that it carried out strikes that day on Oracle’s data center in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, and on Amazon’s cloud computing center in Bahrain.
An official statement posted on April 3 by the media office of the UAE Dubai government on a social media platform said that reports of Iran attacking Oracle’s Dubai data center were “untrue,” calling them “false information.” The statement also urged that, as the risk of spreading unverified information increases amid heightened regional tensions, the public should rely on credible sources and obtain relevant updates through official channels.
According to reports from Qatar’s Al Jazeera and the British Financial Times, among others, the Bahrain Ministry of Interior said on April 2 that a fire broke out in a building housing a company after it was hit in the Iranian attack.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps previously released an announcement on March 31 saying it would treat as “lawful targets” the companies and institutions in the Middle East associated with 18 U.S. information and communications technology and artificial intelligence enterprises, citing the “use of artificial intelligence in warfare and espionage activities.”
The announcement listed 18 U.S. companies described as “at risk,” including Oracle, Amazon, Microsoft, Apple, Google, Cisco, and others.
The announcement also said that employees of the above-mentioned institutions are advised to leave their workplaces immediately to protect their own safety, and that residents within a 1-kilometer radius should also leave their homes and go to safe locations. (End)
