The latest development in the case of Yang Xiaowei, former General Manager of China Telecom Group, suspected of bribery: he has been arrested and formally prosecuted.
Operator Finance Network Gossip/By
On April 2, the case involving Yang Xiaowei, the former general manager of China Telecom Group, who is suspected of taking bribes, has seen the latest developments, and the situation is very grim!
This is because Yang Xiaowei has already been announced as arrested and has been prosecuted, which also means that the investigation into Yang Xiaowei has entered the final critical stage, and he is definitely unable to escape prison time.
Yang Xiaowei began to be investigated in April 2025. In that year, he was 62 years old, and the incident happened while he was still serving in office. Now, more than a year has passed since this case, and he has gone through a series of procedures, including having his position revoked, disciplinary actions being affirmed, being expelled from both the party and public office according to law (shuang kai), being arrested, and being prosecuted.
In the telecom industry, everyone is not unfamiliar with Yang Xiaowei, and his personal recognition is also very high. With more than 30 years of deep involvement in the telecom sector, he rose from a technician to important posts such as Vice General Manager of China Unicom Group, Vice General Manager of China Telecom Group, and General Manager, among other roles, and for a time he became a very inspiring example in the industry.
It was not until 2016, when Yang Xiaowei, aged 53, left the field of the “three major telecom operators.” After that, he continued to hold senior positions.
After investigation, what problems does he have?
First, as verified, starting from the time he served as Vice General Manager of China Unicom Group, he gradually fell into a “bottomless pit of desire.” He used the convenience provided by these posts, as well as the convenience conditions formed by his authority or status, to seek benefits for others; he illegally accepted other people’s property and money, with the amount being especially huge.
Specifically, this includes accepting gifts and consumption cards in violation of regulations, and accepting banquets that could affect the impartial performance of official duties;
Second, in work such as the hiring of employees, he sought benefits for others and accepted property and money;
Third, Yang Xiaowei is accused of instructing, or at least allowing, his relatives to take advantage of his personal power or the influence associated with his positions to seek private benefits;
Fourth, he took in money on a large scale to amass wealth. He used the convenience of his position to profit for others in corporate operations, project bidding, and engineering contracting, etc., and he illegally accepted huge amounts of property and money.
It is rumored that after Yang Xiaowei ran into trouble, his son was also implicated. It seems that he indeed instructed, or at least allowed, his relatives to commit the crimes together.
According to the procedures, after the review and prosecution stage, Yang Xiaowei will also enter the final trial stage, but at present, further waiting is still required before it can be finally known what judgment and ruling will be made regarding Yang Xiaowei.
