The U.S. Department of the Treasury plans to print President Donald Trump's signature on the newly issued U.S. dollar bills.
The U.S. Department of the Treasury announced on the 26th that it plans to print U.S. President Donald Trump’s signature on newly issued dollar bills to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States. It is still unclear whether his signature would appear on all denominations of the bills. The move has drawn controversy. One netizen commented, “This is (Trump’s) personal priority—America’s last.” For more than a century, dollar bills have carried the signatures of the Treasury Secretary and the Treasury’s Treasurer. The New York Times reports that on newly issued dollar bills, Trump’s signature will replace the Treasurer’s signature, and be placed alongside the signature of U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessent. Media reports say that having his signature printed on the bills is Trump’s latest “legacy-making” move. Since Trump returned to the White House, he has also pushed for the minting of a one-dollar coin bearing his image and commemorative gold coins. In February this year, the Florida State Senate approved a bill to rename the Palm Beach International Airport in that state after President Trump, turning it into the “Donald J. Trump President International Airport.” Democrats have expressed opposition. In December last year, a board vote of the “Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts,” whose members were personally selected by Trump, decided to rename the center the “Trump—Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.” The renaming was strongly opposed by Democrats and the Kennedy family.
