【Caixin Global】 Global supply chains are entering an uncertain period. The lesson for businesses is that resilience, energy security, and decarbonization are becoming core elements of corporate competitiveness. Dino Otranto, co-CEO of Fortescue, said in an interview with Caixin during the China Development Forum 2026 annual meeting on March 23.

Otranto said that an unstable geopolitical environment has exposed the fragility of many systems that support the global economic framework. Energy is at the heart of this fragility. Most of the world’s fuel flows through a small number of sea routes and geopolitical choke points. Once conflicts disrupt these corridors, the consequences will spread rapidly, ultimately leading to inflation, rising industrial costs, and affecting economic stability. Therefore, these corridors can easily become tools of geopolitical pressure.
