NIO's 2 millionth electric drive unit rolls off the production line

On March 5, 2026, NIO’s 2Mth electric drive motor rolled off the production line at NIO’s second electric drive manufacturing plant in Hefei, marking a new milestone in NIO’s electric drive manufacturing.

The 2Mth electric drive product from NIO that rolled off the line this time is the rear electric drive system mounted on the all-new ES8. On February 27, the all-new ES8 reached the delivery milestone of 70,000 units, and for two consecutive months it topped the sales charts for “large SUVs” and “models priced above 400k yuan,” demonstrating strong sales momentum. NIO’s second electric drive manufacturing plant in Hefei, with its leading intelligent manufacturing and efficient mass production capabilities, provides solid support for the stable delivery of the all-new ES8.

As an important component of NIO’s full-stack 12 core technologies for intelligent electric vehicles, NIO continues to develop and manufacture its own electric drive systems in-house. Its highly integrated cast-shell design, along with ongoing deep exploration of new materials, new processes, and new structures, has enabled NIO’s electric drive system to achieve ongoing breakthroughs in high performance, miniaturization, and lightweighting, while maintaining a leading position in the industry.

To date, NIO’s in-house developed and manufactured electric drive systems have been recognized as “the world’s top ten electric drive systems” for four consecutive sessions. The 900V high-performance intelligent flagship electric drive installed in NIO’s all-new ES8—being the world’s first 925V continuous-wave coil winding technology motor—won the “China Heart” annual top ten award.

NIO’s electric drive in-house development continues to accelerate in industrialized production. NIO’s first electric drive manufacturing plant in Hefei reached the milestone of rolling off its 500kth and 1Mth electric drives on July 25, 2022 and March 27, 2024, respectively. Just 23 months later, NIO’s second electric drive manufacturing plant in Hefei achieved the feat of rolling off 2M units.

Located at NIO’s Hefei NeoPark XinQiao intelligent electric vehicle industrial park, NIO’s second electric drive manufacturing plant is an electric drive assembly manufacturing facility that holds a globally leading position in the industry. It features the world’s first high-power 925V high-voltage continuous flat wire wave-winding stator mass-production highly automated line. This production line applies globally industry-leading 3D integrated wave-winding forming and lead-embedding technology; the overall line efficiency reaches 94%, and the acceptance rate is as high as 99.6%, both at leading levels in the industry.

NIO’s second electric drive manufacturing plant in Hefei has large-scale production capabilities for permanent-magnet wave-wound rotors, electric drive controllers, and permanent-magnet and induction drive system components. Leveraging multiple high-capacity flexible intelligent production lines, it deeply applies intelligent equipment and advanced technologies, with automation level, production efficiency, and product acceptance rates all ranking among the top in the industry.
