“Fruit newcomers” take turns to launch new items
Recently, some media outlets have noted that
The first batch of lychees
is becoming one of
the representative “premium fruits”
on e-commerce platforms.
With a short selling period and limited production,
the price of lychees per jin on e-commerce platforms
often exceeds 60 yuan.
Some lychees have even been sold at
nearly 100 yuan per jin.
A reporter checked e-commerce platforms and found that starting in April, early autumn osmanthus-fragrance lychees are being rolled out in batches.
Many consumers are willing to pay high prices to try the fruit. According to data from one platform, one jin of Hainan osmanthus-fragrance lychees costs 78.8 yuan. Another platform shows that premium osmanthus-fragrance lychees weighing 2 jin are priced as high as 164 yuan, which works out to 82 yuan per jin; sales have already reached 1,000+ orders. On yet another platform, a seller has posted a link reading “Premium guìwèi lychees sold for only 10 days.” The page information shows the delivered-to-hand price is 98.9 yuan per jin, 7 have already been sold, and it has now been taken down.
Lychee production is divided into “big years” and “small years.” 2025 is a big year for lychees. With abundant supply, “feizi xiao” lychees have been sold in many places at the “cabbage-price” rate of 10 yuan for two jin. Lychee King is priced at around 25 yuan per jin, and guìwèi lychees once dropped to below 20 yuan.
Meanwhile, according to agricultural products trading platform “A Mù Tián Agricultural Big Data,” early-harvest lychees such as Hainan osmanthus-fragrance are already being sold by some merchants, and the purchase price at the origin has already reached around 60 yuan per jin.
A copywriter checked the lychee prices on some online platforms. There aren’t many merchants offering lychees when they go live, and after converting, prices still come out to nearly 80–100 yuan per jin!
Industry-wide forecasts
This year is a “small year” for lychees
Xu Lìfēng, a researcher at the A Mù Tián Industrial Research Institute, analyzed for reporters that, based on the lychee production cycle in previous years, lychees in 2026 are expected to be in a “small year” phase. At present, the rate of flower formation at the production areas has clearly decreased. This is mainly because the output in 2025’s “extraordinary big year” hit a historical high, which led to nutrient depletion in the tree body. Combined with climate factors such as warm winters in major producing areas like Guangdong from 2025 to 2026, it affected the differentiation of flower buds. It is expected that lychee varieties including guìwèi, nuòmǐ cí, and feizi xiao will all see a reduction in production to some degree.
Xu Lìfēng said that a drop in lychee yield will inevitably cause prices to rise. As for the specific magnitude of the price increase, it will depend on subsequent factors such as fruit setting. Taking Guangdong producing areas as an example, it is expected that starting in April, lychees in some regions will begin to go on sale. When last year’s high-quality guìwèi lychees in Maoming just came out, the price was above 80 yuan; this year, it is expected to be even higher.
The reporter observed that amid the rapid changes in fruit prices, e-commerce platforms’ selling methods for fruit are also becoming more diversified, targeting consumers’ expectations of price changes.
“Pre-sale” lychees appeared on a certain e-commerce platform. A lychee orchard grower listed a pre-sale link for Lychee King on the e-commerce platform. Although the expected上市 time for Lychee King is early June, the merchant had already listed it at 148 yuan for 5 jin—about 30 yuan per jin. The seller said that consumers who place an order can lock in this price and that it will not be affected by market price increases. If the market price drops, refunds are available. Page information shows that 132 people have already clicked “want it.”
At the same time, the reporter found that frozen lychees from last year are still selling hot on e-commerce platforms. A product link shows that two jin of frozen lychees costs 28.8 yuan. The seller states that these are lychees preserved using rapid freezing technology. Although many consumers commented that the texture and taste are not ideal, “having passed the season” still opened a price gap, and it continues to attract many lychee lovers to place orders. Page information shows that more than 10,000 units have already been sold.
Netizens: Lychee “freedom” will be hard this year
Regarding the news that lychees will be cut sharply in production,
some netizens said outright
“This year, lychee freedom will be hard.”
Others said
“I ate too many last year; I’ll rest this year.”
And some netizens said
“Looking forward to next year’s lychees
‘flexible and adjustable’—let’s get more next year.”
