Ministry of National Defense: Never allow any plots to disrupt peace in the South China Sea
On the afternoon of February 28, the spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defense, Colonel Zhang Xiaogang, released a statement on recent military-related issues. Reporter: According to reports, recently the Philippines, the United States, Japan, and Australia carried out so-called “joint patrols” in the air and sea areas near Huangyan Island. The Philippines and the U.S. held a strategic dialogue, saying that China’s activities in the South China Sea have an adverse impact on regional peace and stability, the Indo-Pacific, and even the broader regional economy. What comments do you have on this? Zhang Xiaogang: Countries such as the United States, despite being far away, have come all the way to the South China Sea to flaunt military power and deliberately fan the flames and stir up trouble. This is the source of chaos that creates tensions. The Philippines, “leaning on outsiders to stir up trouble” and kicking up waves, keeps launching infringements and provocations against China, undermining the common interests of regional countries. It is an indisputable troublemaker and a saboteur of peace. China has indisputable sovereignty over the islands in the South China Sea and the adjacent waters, and it enjoys sovereign rights and jurisdiction over the relevant waters. China’s normal activities in waters under its jurisdiction, along with the taking of necessary measures to safeguard sovereignty and rights and interests, are justified, lawful, professional, and restrained—above reproach. The Chinese armed forces always remain on high alert and resolutely respond to and counter any infringements and provocations. China will never allow any plot to disrupt the South China Sea to succeed, and will work to keep peace and stability in the South China Sea. (Xinhua News Agency)
