It’s completely on fire! After the popularity of orange-red, the daily sales of merchants have increased fivefold, and Guangdong specialty products are selling like crazy nationwide!
On April 4, 2026, Guangdong’s specialty tangerine peel (Chenpi) surged to sudden popularity. Merchants’ daily sales jumped directly by 5x; it transformed from a niche medicinal herb into a mainstream wellness item. Orders exploded and crews stayed up all night to stock up, as Guangdong’s Huazhou production area entered its busiest period of the year.
Chenpi is one of China’s four major “southern medicinal herbs.” In August 2024, it was included in the medicine-and-food-same-source directory, breaking the “can only be used as medicine, not for consumption” restriction. Product innovation accelerated, covering more than 200 varieties across tea drinks, snacks, and functional foods.
During the Two Sessions period, deputies to the National People’s Congress demonstrated Chenpi products on-site and openly praised and recommended them, instantly igniting the entire internet. Starting the evening of March 7, orders exploded. Merchants’ orders surged overnight, with daily sales directly rising by 5x; at the peak, daily orders broke through to over three or four hundred.
A merchant in Pingding Town, Huazhou, Guangdong, Zhang Bangchao, said the store’s daily sales increased 5x, kicking off an all-night stocking-up mode, with continuous late-night overtime for multiple days until deep into the night. Another merchant, Lai Zufa, saw sales rise by 6–7x; niche agricultural products experienced explosive growth.
The reasons behind the sudden popularity are multifaceted: the opening of its medicine-and-food-same-source status expands applicable scenarios; endorsements during the Two Sessions provide authoritative validation; and as wellness awareness rises, Chenpi’s cough-soothing, phlegm-reducing, lung-clearing, and throat-moistening effects precisely match demand.
The raw material of Chenpi comes from Huazhou pomelo. Local farmers shifted from planting lychees and longans to growing Huazhou pomelos, greatly expanding planting areas and increasing farmers’ income. The number of processing plants surged, and young people returned home to engage in e-commerce sales, driving a comprehensive industry boom.
E-commerce has become the core channel, with Pinduoduo as the main battleground; merchants’ online sales account for more than 50%. The platforms support agricultural products going upward—tilting traffic allocation and providing subsidy support—helping Chenpi reach customers nationwide.
Product formats have diversified: Chenpi fruit, sliced pieces, paste, throat-soothing candies, and granule instant decoctions—there’s something for everyone, suitable for different groups. It’s easy to brew and has a mild taste, making it ideal for everyday wellness, with repeat purchase rates continuing to rise.
Affordable pricing: ordinary sliced pieces cost dozens of yuan per jin, suitable for mass consumption. Compared with premium wellness products like bird’s nest and ginseng, Chenpi offers extremely high value for money, quickly breaking into the mainstream and reaching homes across the country.
Industry boom drives development across the entire value chain—planting, processing, e-commerce, and logistics all benefit. Huazhou has built a Chenpi featured industry, planning for a 100-billion-yuan output value, becoming a model for rural revitalization.
Industry insiders predict that Chenpi’s popularity will continue to rise, gradually moving from a Guangdong specialty to the whole country, becoming a nationwide-level wellness favorite. The market size is expected to surpass the 10-billion-yuan mark.
As the next mainstream wellness hit, Chenpi is currently entering an unprecedented window of development.
Chenpi, a traditional Chinese medicinal herb originating from Huazhou, Guangdong, is known as the “southern ginseng,” famous for its effects in soothing coughs, resolving phlegm, regulating qi, and strengthening the spleen. In the past, it mainly circulated in Guangdong and surrounding regions, making it a regional specialty. But in recent years, with the awakening of health awareness and the rise of “guochao” wellness trends, Chenpi has gradually come into view for consumers nationwide, thanks to its remarkable effects and unique cultural background.
There are many factors driving Chenpi’s rise. First, the spread of live-stream e-commerce and social media has let this traditional specialty quickly break into the mainstream; on short-video platforms, wellness content about Chenpi repeatedly floods the screen. Second, modern people’s demand for natural, additive-free wellness products is growing day by day; as a representative of medicine-and-food-same-source products, Chenpi aligns perfectly with this trend. In addition, local governments in Guangdong are also actively promoting the standardization and branding of the Chenpi industry, providing strong support for market expansion.
Market data shows that sales revenue of Chenpi-related products has grown explosively in recent years. From traditional sliced pieces and tea drinks to innovative preparations like medicinal pastes and snacks, product formats have become increasingly diverse, meeting the needs of different consumers. Industry experts predict that within the next three to five years, Chenpi’s market size will exceed 10 billion, becoming another nationwide wellness hit after goji berries and ejiao.
The rise of Chenpi is not only the success of a single product; it is also a microcosm of traditional Chinese wellness culture being rejuvenated in modern society. It proves that high-quality regional specialties are fully capable of overcoming geographic limitations and becoming beloved healthy products for consumers across the country and even worldwide. In the future, as the industrial chain continues to improve and brand influence continues to grow, Chenpi has the potential to become a new calling card for China’s wellness culture.
