Senegalese media: U.S. and Israel's military actions intensify global turmoil

Senegal’s official newspaper, the Sun (Soleil), recently published two commentary pieces stating that the United States and Israel’s military strikes against Iran have unmistakably exposed the unilateral character of their disregard for international law. This action not only drags the Middle East into a conflict with “an unpredictable outcome,” but also intensifies instability worldwide. The article summaries are as follows:

On February 28, the United States and Israel launched military strikes against Iran, and Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, was killed in the attack. Although diplomatic negotiations existed before the action, this was merely “diplomatic cover” prepared by the U.S. for military operations.

“Peace through strength” advocated by U.S. leadership is a complete paradox; its essence is to force the opponent to surrender and impose conditions on it. Military victory far from equals winning hearts and minds, and it does not mean enduring peace. The United States’ attempt to reshape the Middle East by relying solely on military force ignores the lessons of history. “Peace” built on a lack of justice and a desire for revenge can only be false.

On what principles does a third country claim the right to remove the leader of a sovereign state? Such conduct completely disregards international law.

From Iraq and Afghanistan to Libya, externally imposed regime changes have repeatedly caused enduring turmoil, leaving behind a power vacuum that benefits the growth of chaos. There is no indication that this decapitation strike against Iran’s leadership will open a stable or democratic transition. (Xinhua News Agency)
