Power will be supplied three months early. The Shanghai East Station of the Eastern Hub is expected to start joint debugging and testing within the year.
On March 31, the first power supply line of the 110 kV Eastern Hub Connection Project was officially put into operation, completing three months ahead of the original plan, providing solid power support for the construction of this “super project.”
To ensure reliable power supply for this major project, State Grid Shanghai Electric Power plans to provide power through two 110 kV power supply lines, with a total electricity supply capacity of 126,000 kVA. The first power supply line delivered in this transmission project comes from the 110 kV Qianhui Substation, involving 2.46 kilometers of newly built duct bank corridors, 29 newly built and renovated well-type manholes, and 16.09 kilometers of newly laid power cables.
Facing multiple challenges such as a tight schedule, large project scale, and frequent overlapping work, State Grid Shanghai Electric Power innovated by adopting a grid-based zoned work model and a staggered work schedule. It proactively connected with nearby construction units, resolving construction interferences through measures such as special coordination and regular consultations. Relying on the “corridor-first” work mechanism, it advanced duct bank work to the site-entry phase before roadway construction, ensuring that the power project advances as scheduled. At the same time, it fully leveraged the advantages of government-enterprise coordination, jointly holding multiple rounds of consultations with the municipal and district-level major offices and relevant departments, promoting deep integration between the power grid planning and regional development planning, and enabling simultaneous fast-tracking of both the users’ on-site main works and the power external line works.
Currently, Shanghai East Station is accelerating construction. By the end of this year, it will be basically completed and start integrated commissioning and trial operations. It is expected that by July 2027, it will meet the conditions for operation. State Grid Shanghai Electric Power will continue to seize the construction golden window, accelerate the construction of key corridors, and ensure that the second power supply line is delivered as scheduled.
It is understood that Shanghai East Station is a very large integrated transportation hub that brings together national railways, suburban railways, urban rail transit, and airport express transit. After completion, it will become a new benchmark open-gateway hub on a par with Hongqiao, and will be of great significance for improving Shanghai’s comprehensive transportation system and enhancing the city’s overall capacity.
