On April 5, Middle East scholar Mohammad Ali Shabani stated in an interview that he believes U.S. President Trump is prepared to follow through on his threats to strike Iran’s critical infrastructure, which poses a serious risk of escalating the regional situation. Iran, on the other hand, has signaled to the U.S. that it ‘will not back down’ by attacking infrastructure in Kuwait. ‘The current situation is somewhat akin to a standoff, where neither side has a dignified exit strategy.
