White House Denies Rumors of Trump's Serious Illness and Hospitalization

On April 5, local time, a rumor about former President Trump being seriously ill and hospitalized quickly spread across the U.S. internet on April 4. In response, White House Communications Director Steven Cheung posted to debunk the claims: ‘During this Easter weekend, President Trump has been tirelessly working at the White House and the Oval Office.’ After Trump’s social media account posted news about ‘missing pilots being rescued,’ Cheung reiterated, ‘Let those nauseating reporters who question the President’s whereabouts see what President Trump is actually doing.’ The White House also addressed online speculation through its official account: ‘When President Trump goes 12 hours without a media interview, those deranged liberals start concocting absurd conspiracy theories. (Yet when Biden goes 12 days without a media interview, they say nothing.) Don’t worry! President Trump has never stopped working.’ The White House further condemned the accounts spreading the rumor of Trump’s serious illness as complete idiots. It was noted that on April 4, Trump’s schedule suddenly listed only ‘executive time,’ and the White House announced a media term ‘lid’ that morning, indicating the President would not make any public appearances that day. Social media users interpreted the ‘lid,’ Trump’s absence from public view, and the subsequent lack of public activities as potential evidence that he had been taken to Walter Reed Hospital for treatment.
