ME News Report, April 15 (UTC+8), Qatar’s Finance Minister Al-Kuwari warned at the IMF Spring Meetings that if the Strait of Hormuz remains closed for an extended period and trade restrictions continue, the Iran conflict could cause greater economic shocks in the coming months. He stated that the current energy price hikes are only “the tip of the iceberg,” and “the full impact will become apparent in one or two months, bringing significant economic shocks.” The Qatar Ras Laffan LNG facility was attacked in March, which supplies nearly one-fifth of the world’s liquefied natural gas exports, triggering a global natural gas shortage. Al-Kuwari said it would take about five years to restore exports and added concerns about helium exports used in chip manufacturing. He pointed out that Qatar supplies about 30% of the world’s helium. During the meeting, he also depicted scenarios where energy shortages could evolve into “nations unable to light up” and fertilizer shortages could trigger a food crisis. (Jin10) (Source: ODAILY)
