Recently, I've been messing around with virtual phone number verification services again. Sometimes you really need a temporary number to register for overseas websites or test APIs; buying SIM cards is too much trouble. I've run into quite a few pitfalls before—some platforms simply don't receive texts, others are painfully slow. Eventually, I found a few decent ones.
The ones I use most are SMS-Activate and 5SIM. Both platforms have pretty fast verification code reception speeds, usually arriving in about 10 seconds, and they cover many countries. Super Cloud SMS supports US and Chinese number segments well—US numbers typically take 10-30 seconds, Chinese numbers are even faster, with receipts in 5-20 seconds. Xiaoniao Verification mainly used for testing domestic apps, with 5-15 seconds usually enough to receive messages. Getsmscode is cheap but can have delays on less popular platforms sometimes.
The most important thing when choosing virtual number platforms is to pick reputable ones—don't just go for the cheapest. Some numbers are shared, which makes them more prone to risk control issues. If you don't receive a text, try switching to another number or a different country segment. If it's just for temporary testing, any platform supporting API access will do; but if you need stable registration on a specific site, my tip is to top up several numbers so you can switch immediately if one becomes invalid.
Another little trick is to find platforms that support "one-click number switching," which saves a lot of hassle. Lastly, a reminder: these virtual phone number verification services are meant to protect privacy and avoid spam. Never use them for illegal activities—staying lawful is everyone's responsibility.
