I just saw a post on X from Bloomberg about the opinion of a Ukrainian author that is quite interesting. Andrey Kurkov — he is one of the influential political voices of Ukraine today — just issued a warning about peace negotiations.
What Kurkov is concerned about is the issue of land concessions. He believes that if President Zelensky accepts territorial concessions as part of a deal mediated by the U.S., that is only the first step. Why? Because Kurkov clearly sees that Putin will not stop there.
There is a rather sharp point in the Ukrainian author's argument — he advises Zelensky to be resilient in the face of all pressures. Not rigidity, but steadfastness in principles. According to Kurkov, this concession will pave the way for further demands.
The current context is quite tense. The conflict is ongoing, and peace negotiations are expected to be the key. But Kurkov’s perspective suggests that not all negotiations lead to lasting peace. It’s a reminder of the complexity of international politics and the difficult decisions leaders must face.
