Just realized my phone's been showing as private for weeks and I had no idea why. People kept asking why I always call them with a private number, but I never changed anything. Turns out it's actually pretty common and there are a few ways to fix it.
If you're trying to figure out how to remove phone from private number, it usually comes down to your carrier settings or something in your phone's caller ID options. On Android, you basically need to go into your Phone app settings, find Caller ID under calling accounts or supplementary services, and switch it to show your number instead of private. Different brands like Samsung or Xiaomi hide it in slightly different spots, but that's the general idea.
iPhone is simpler - just go to Settings, tap Apps, find Phone, and turn on Show My Caller ID. If you have multiple SIM cards or eSIM, you might need to do it for each one separately.
The annoying part is when it still doesn't work even after you've changed the settings. That's usually a network issue between your phone and your carrier. Some people use USSD codes like dialing *31# to force your number to show, or you can try resetting your network settings completely. I also learned that old SIM cards or privacy apps with deep system access can mess with your caller ID too.
If none of that works, honestly just contact your carrier directly because sometimes they control it on their end and you can't change it from your phone. But knowing how to remove phone from private number settings first usually saves you the call. Worth checking before you give up on it.
