US Vice President Vance's Trip to Pakistan Delayed
On April 22, Pakistan announced that it is prepared for the next round of talks between the US and Iran, but as the two-week ceasefire deadline approaches, it remains unclear when officials from Iran or the US will appear. US Vice President Vance had planned to depart for Pakistan but has postponed his trip. A White House official stated that Vance is staying in Washington to attend additional policy meetings. On Tuesday evening local time, Pakistani officials indicated that Iran has not yet confirmed its participation. Pakistan’s information minister emphasized that it is ‘crucial’ for Iran to confirm its involvement in the negotiations before the ceasefire expires. In an interview with CNBC on Tuesday, Trump expressed optimism about potential talks but stated that the US military is ready to bomb Iran again if an agreement with the Iranian government cannot be reached. Even if both sides return to the negotiating table, there are still many sticking points, such as the Iranian nuclear program and issues related to the Strait of Hormuz.
