Just realized a lot of people don't know how to properly update their SRD banking details and it's causing payment delays. Figured I'd share what actually works because the process is different depending on which grant you're on.

If you're getting the SRD R370, everything's online which is actually pretty straightforward. You go to the official SASSA SRD portal, enter your ID number, and they send you a secure link via SMS. Click it, punch in your new bank account details, and submit. Takes a few days to verify but way easier than going to an office. Just make sure the account is registered in your name—they won't pay into joint or third-party accounts.

For the permanent grants though (old age, disability, child grants), you have to go in person to a SASSA office. You'll need your ID, a bank statement from the last three months, and you fill out their payment change form. They send it to the bank and it can take up to 21 working days. Pro tip: submit before the 15th of the month or you'll wait another cycle.

Phone number changes work similarly. SRD users can do it online through their contact details page—you get an OTP sent to your new number to confirm. For permanent grants, just call the helpline (0800 60 10 11) or visit an office. People mess this up a lot and miss payment notifications, so don't sleep on it.

One more thing—watch out for fake websites trying to get your info. Always use the official SASSA links. Seen too many posts about people getting scammed on this.
