Been looking at which coins might actually hit that psychological $1 barrier this year, and honestly there's some interesting candidates worth paying attention to. Most people chase moonshots that are basically dead on arrival, so I started filtering for projects that are actually in the top 500 by market cap, haven't touched $1 yet, but are trading above a penny.
Dogecoin keeps coming up in these conversations. It's wild that DOGE almost got there back in 2021 when it hit $0.73 with a $69B market cap. Right now it's sitting around $0.09 with a $14.44B valuation, so we're talking about a 1,000% move to $1. Seems crazy until you remember what happened post-halving cycles before. If Bitcoin does its thing and pulls the market up, DOGE could genuinely surprise people.
Then there's Kaspa, which is doing something different with that blockDAG tech instead of traditional blockchain. The throughput angle is legit. KAS hit $0.21 last year but has pulled back to $0.03 now. That's a 2,700% move to $1, which sounds insane, but smaller market cap coins can move fast when momentum hits. The community around KAS is actually engaged, not just bag holders, which matters.
Stellar's the established play here. XLM has been around forever, does real cross-border stuff that actually works. It's at $0.18 now with a $5.84B market cap. To hit $1 you're looking at roughly a 450% increase. Honestly, this one feels more realistic than the others just because the infrastructure is there and it's not pure speculation. The ecosystem keeps expanding too.
Hedera is the enterprise-focused one. HBAR touched $0.57 before and has cooled to $0.09 currently. The hashgraph tech appeals to serious institutions, and with more corporate adoption potentially coming, an 11x to $1 isn't out of the question. The governing council backing matters here.
Real talk though: whether any of these hit $1 depends way more on whether Bitcoin continues climbing and the overall market stays healthy. These aren't independent plays, they're all riding the same wave. If we see a pullback in the broader market, even the most promising next crypto to hit $1 will struggle. The next crypto to hit $1 will likely be whichever one catches the right momentum at the right time in the cycle, not necessarily the one with the best tech.
