Progress in the U.S. Supreme Court's tariff case: Trump's chances of winning have decreased
On November 6th, Jiutian Data reported that the U.S. Supreme Court held oral arguments regarding the legality of Trump’s large-scale reciprocal tariffs. Besides the Court’s liberal justices, several conservative justices also questioned the legality of Trump’s tariffs. Chief Justice John Roberts stated that tariffs imposed by Trump are taxes on Americans, which has always been a core power of Congress. Among the three justices appointed by Trump, Neil Gorsuch and Amy Coney Barrett also raised skeptical questions and delved into the arguments of tariff opponents. The Supreme Court’s conservative justices hold a majority, with a 6-3 split. The Court is expected to announce its ruling in December. The latest prediction from the platform Polymarket gives a 27% chance of Trump winning, down from 40% before the debate, and briefly dropped to a new low of 18% during the hearing.
