Update warning from Apple: The most at risk are cryptocurrency investors

Apple has warned its users to update their devices to the latest version due to a security vulnerability that particularly puts cryptocurrency users at risk.

The technology giant stated in its announcement, “We have received information that this security vulnerability may have been used against specifically targeted individuals through a highly sophisticated attack method.”

The mentioned vulnerability is located in Apple’s ImageIO framework. When a user opens a malicious photo sent by an attacker, the harmful code hidden within the visual causes an overflow in ImageIO’s memory. This allows the attacker to execute commands on the device without authorization and take control of the device. The user only needs to open the sent visual, and does not have to download or execute anything else.

The identified vulnerability poses a greater risk, especially on devices that have cryptocurrency wallets. This is because attackers can use this method to capture passwords and drain the wallet. The fact that wallet addresses, private keys, and recovery phrases are sometimes stored on devices as screenshots also makes cryptocurrency users more vulnerable to dangers.

Experts warn that delaying critical updates from Apple could lead to serious financial losses. Therefore, it is emphasized that it is of great importance for cryptocurrency users to update their devices to the latest version without wasting time.
