Shinrong Securities representative Huang Chengye officially assumes the position of President of the 7th Financial Investment Association and presents a comprehensive vision regarding the role and direction of the financial investment industry. He stated that to expand the proportion of the capital market in our country’s economy, he will lead the association in policy responses and industry environment improvements.

At the inauguration ceremony held on January 2nd at the Yeouido Financial Investment Center in Seoul, President Huang emphasized: “The next ten years will be a period where the financial investment industry surpasses its role as a mere supplement to the banking sector and officially establishes its independent industry status.” This aligns with the industry’s common view that strengthening the domestic capital market’s resilience and restructuring the investment ecosystem are necessary. Recently, in global markets, the roles of financial investment sectors covering financial platforms, asset management, and corporate finance are expanding. To keep pace with this trend, structural reforms of Korea’s capital market are imperative.

He quoted the saying “Japan is already running at 100 km/h,” pointing out that the pace of change in Korea’s financial investment industry is relatively slow. He then elaborated on the large-scale transformation centered on the capital market, which will involve building the necessary infrastructure to enhance the global competitiveness of large financial firms and enabling small and medium-sized companies to actively participate in nurturing innovative enterprises. This move is interpreted as an effort to increase investment attractiveness and strengthen the role of the corporate growth funding window amid recent concerns about stock market contraction caused by declining market capitalization and decreasing listed companies.

President Huang listed specific issues for developing the financial investment industry, including redesigning the linkage structure between pensions and the capital market, establishing a long-term investment culture, and guiding non-productive liquidity into the market. In other words, there is an urgent need to shift from capital flows chasing short-term price differences to a structure that supports corporate growth and pursues stable returns. He also stated that through ongoing cooperation with the government, Congress, and the media, the focus will be on institutional improvements and gaining public trust.

On the other hand, President Huang Chengye was elected during the temporary general meeting of the Financial Investment Association held on December 18, 2024, through decisive voting. He has accumulated comprehensive experience in asset management, corporate finance, and management at Shinrong Securities over nearly 40 years since 1987. He graduated from Seoul National University with a degree in Business Administration and earned a Master’s degree in Finance from Illinois State University in the United States, providing a solid academic foundation.

This tone is likely to indicate that the association will move toward strengthening its policy advisory role and industry coordination in response to accelerating institutional reforms and digitalization of the financial industry. Especially as the association formulates unified strategies, this is expected to become a core issue for enhancing the competitiveness of the capital market.
