PANews January 26 News, according to Cointelegraph, Strategy co-founder Michael Saylor recently stated that the biggest threat to the Bitcoin network comes from those “ambitious speculators” seeking to push for protocol changes. This remark sparked online debate, with Bitcoin extremist Justin Bechler arguing that Saylor was targeting software developers who promote non-monetary uses of Bitcoin (such as NFTs and on-chain images). Helius CEO Mert Mumtaz opposed Saylor’s view, calling his idea a “cancer,” stating that Bitcoin is not perfect and has many vulnerabilities that should not be left unaddressed. Several X users also mentioned the ongoing spam war and Bitcoin Improvement Proposal 110, which aims to filter non-monetary data. Saylor’s post intensified the debate between Bitcoin holders (who favor protocol immutability) and software developers (who advocate for expanding Bitcoin’s functionality, such as quantum-resistant wallet addresses and on-chain file storage).
