Telegram surprised with its new move: How does it affect mini-games?

Cryptocurrency-friendly communication platform Telegram has launched a browser and mini app store, among other updates

Users can switch between websites and platform messaging using a browser that includes decentralized websites. Pavel Durov, the CEO of the platform, said, “Telegram’s browser supports decentralized websites hosted on TON. This makes Web3 immediately accessible to our approximately one billion users.”

Touch-and-win games are pulling up the statistics

Durov first announced the in-app browser and mini-app store application plans on July 19th. Many games on Telegram gained popularity this year. Catizen and another popular game on Telegram, Hamster Kombat, use the native cryptocurrency Toncoin (TON) of The Open Network. Toncoin traded at $6.79, showing a 1.05% increase in the last 24 hours.

More than 500 million of Telegram’s 950 million users engage with touch-and-win games every month. Among the most popular Telegram applications is Hamster Kombat, which recently surpassed 300 million players in four months.

Hamster Kombat is a crypto game where players touch a hamster to earn tokens and upgrade their virtual crypto exchanges. Telegram claims to be the third fastest-growing app, reaching 150 million players. Catizen, a Web3 social entertainment platform, is another widely adopted TON-based application.

Durov said in his announcement on July 23 that Catizen reached 26 million players since its launch in March and earned 16 million dollars from in-app purchases. About 160,000 dollars of the earnings were allocated to saving street cats.
