AI pioneer Geoffrey Hinton awarded the 2024 Nobel Prize in Physics

Golden Finance reported that on October 8th local time, the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences announced that the 2024 Nobel Prize in Physics will be awarded to John J. Hopfield of Princeton University and Geoffrey E. Hinton of the University of Toronto in Canada for their “foundational discoveries and inventions in the field of machine learning using artificial neural networks”. The two winners will share a prize of 11 million Swedish Krona (approximately 7.45 million RMB). It is reported that Geoffrey Hinton, the Turing Award winner in 2018, is known as a depth learning giant and the godfather of AI in the industry. Ilya Sutskever, the former chief scientist of ChatGPT, was once a student of Geoffrey Hinton.
