On December 7, the largest opposition party in South Korea, the Together Democratic Party, announced today (December 7) that it submitted an impeachment motion against the Minister of Administration, Lee Sang-min, to the National Assembly’s Legislation Committee in the morning. The Together Democratic Party alleges that Lee Sang-min is suspected of premeditated illegal martial law, obstructing the normal proceedings of the State Council meeting on martial law, and supporting illegal martial law. This is the second impeachment facing Lee Sang-min. In 2023, the Together Democratic Party and other opposition parties submitted and passed an impeachment motion against Lee Sang-min for failing to respond effectively to the Lee Tae-yoon trampling incident. However, the South Korean Constitutional Court rejected the impeachment request against Lee Sang-min, and Lee Sang-min resumed his duties.
