a few months ago, I noticed that the system I had deployed, was flawed in design. I thought I was taking a certain type of exposures, but wasn't really the case once I dug through the data.
the interesting thing is, that flaw, after I understood it, is what's driving a lot of my PnL this year, at a much better rate than what was the traditionally accepted way.
it's being able to handle this current environment, specifically because of that, which I perceived to be a flaw at the time.
I wouldn't have been able to find it, perhaps, had I just delayed the deployment to real live market.

only on the job you can find the real problems of real world interaction. I am finding so much stuff I was not aware off even 1 year ago just by designing this new infra to handle a scalable multi-system, multi-exchange solution, that I didn't even consider.
get in there, do the job, do a few things better each day and ask questions later.
waiting for the perfect momentum to do something is not the optimal way to do things.

will buy a new desk, but wondering if it's really worth the premium for the electric thingy, or just hype.

one of my main gaps in knowledge is portfolio construction when we have a bunch of uncorrelated signals to put together.
whenever someone asks me about it, it's what I feel the most uncomfortable answering.
what I do is just separate them into different portfolios and allocate a similar amount of cash equally as a separate "strategy".
but I know that ain't the most optimal especially when it comes to cost efficiency.
