The report of the total number of deaths during the pilgrimage in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, has exceeded 900, reaching 922 people. An Arab diplomat told Agence France-Presse that the death toll of Egyptian pilgrims has increased from over 300 the previous day to “at least 600,” most of which were due to the heat. The diplomat subsequently added that Egyptian officials in Saudi Arabia had received “1400 reports of missing pilgrims,” including 600 deaths.
