Jin10 Data September 12 News, political violence incidents in the United States are surging, with the number of assassinations and attempted assassinations against politicians reaching the highest record since the 1960s in the past five years. According to the Hamlin University research institution “Violence Project,” there have been 5 incidents of politicians being assassinated or attempted assassinations since the beginning of 2021, including two attacks against Trump in 2024. Analysts Jennifer Welch and Martin Quick stated: “Political violence is contrary to a healthy democracy. Its causes are difficult to explain simply, as the perpetrators and victims cross ideological boundaries.” They noted that a significant factor in the recent rise of political violence is the “increasing political polarization.” Data from Voteview, a research institution affiliated with the University of California, Los Angeles, shows that since the end of World War II, the ideological divide between Democrats and Republicans in the U.S. Congress has been continually widening in both the House of Representatives and the Senate.
