On July 20, local time, the United Nations World Food Programme warned that the armed conflict in Sudan has severely limited the humanitarian assistance work of humanitarian aid agencies in the southeast and west of the country, including White Nile, Blue Nile, Kassala State, Al Qadharif State and Darfur. Fighting between the two sides of the conflict in central Sudan’s Sennar state has cut off the main food and fuel supply route through the state, which is a lifeline for hundreds of thousands of Sudanese people, according to the World Food Programme. A large WFP logistics hub in White Nile State is currently in “complete isolation”, making relief efforts impossible. In addition, one border crossing between Chad and the Darfur region of western Sudan remains closed and the other is impassable, resulting in a halt in the delivery of humanitarian relief supplies from Chad to western Sudan. The World Food Programme (WFP) is calling on both parties to the armed conflict in Sudan to open all humanitarian corridors so that relief supplies can reach all those in need.
