Another member of the US Securities and Exchange Commission announced his early resignation, and the Republican Party will have a majority in the agency.
Golden Ten Data News on November 23rd, Jaime Lizarraga, a Democratic member of the five-member committee of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), announced that he will retire two years early. After the Trump administration takes office in January next year, the committee will only have two Republicans and one Democrat. Lizarraga, a former aide to former House Speaker Pelosi, was appointed to a five-year term at the SEC in 2022. When announcing this decision, he mentioned his wife’s poor health. The day before, SEC Chairman Gensler announced that he would leave the SEC on the day of Trump’s planned inauguration. With Lizarraga’s departure, the number of Republicans in the agency will exceed that of Democrats from the first day of the new government, which may enhance their ability to take a completely different approach on policy issues such as regulating cryptocurrencies and prosecuting enforcement cases.
