Golden Finance reports that on April 1, local time on March 31, Belgium, Croatia, Cyprus, France, Greece, Italy, Malta, the Netherlands, Portugal, and the United Kingdom, along with the European Union, issued a joint statement calling on Lebanon and Israel to hold direct political negotiations to help bring an end to the current conflict. The statement said that direct political negotiations would help put an end to the conflict and create conditions for the region to achieve lasting peaceful coexistence. The statement also urged all parties to avoid further escalation of the situation, resume implementation of the ceasefire agreement, and comply with United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701. The statement further called on Israel to avoid expanding the conflict, including by refraining from launching ground operations on Lebanese territory. (CCTV News)
